Grand Theft Auto 5 has a ton of items to purchase from apartments and businesses to cars and a submarine. New players have a lot to choose from, but they don't want to make the wrong purchase. Sure, they could go for the obvious and buy a standard apartment, or they could save up their hard-earned cash and get that deluxe apartment in the sky.
Players need to be wise about what they purchase or they may end up with some serious regrets. Every car, every helicopter costs some serious cash and wasting money on the wrong items can leave a player without cash to buy the stuff that will give a good return on their investment.
10 Useful: Insurgent
The Insurgent is one of the most useful purchases you can make in Grand Theft Auto 5 Online if you are looking to protect yourself and your friends from the neverending onslaught of missiles and constant other explosions in Los Santos.
This bad boy can take punishment and survive multiple missiles before biting the dust. It can even be upgraded with special research from the bunker properties to make it even tougher. It even has amazing traction both on and off the road and is even able to plow over anyone in its path with ease.
9 Useless: Yacht
The yacht is something that you should really only buy if you have an excessive amount of money with nothing else left to spend it on. With Rockstar ignoring the desire players have for a nautical themed DLC, this overly large and luxurious boat probably won't see any action for a long time.
Typically, it costs at least six million dollars if you get the basic version (which we all know you don't) and doesn't offer anything in return. While some vehicles can be used to traverse the land or air, the yacht cannot be moved unless you want to shell out another twenty-five thousand. At least it has a missile defense system, right?
8 Useful: Passive Businesses*
There are quite a few that can be added to this part of the list. Part of the updates that GTA Online has received allows players to become an MC President (Motorcycle Club) and get their hands dirty in some illegal side businesses. Among these businesses are Document Forgery Offices, Weed Farms, Counterfeit Cash Factories, Meth Labs, and Cocaine Lockups.
Each of these businesses will make a player money in the background while they go off and complete other missions. These businesses will eventually run out of supplies and need to be replenished. This can be done by either completing missions or spending a little bit of money.
7 Useless: Arena War Workshop & Cars
Arena War is one of the events that you can join in GTA Online and can be a blast as you drive around in literal death machines and assault anything in your path. The only problem is that the workshop is pretty useless unless you are into spending millions on cars that can only be used in Arena War or Freemode.
None of the cars that you can purchase and upgrade can be used on missions so the only time you will be driving them is probably in Freemode. They are decent for PVP, but there are many other vehicles that are far more versatile. Plus, you don't need the workshop to participate in the Arena War which makes the workshop even less valuable than it already was.
6 Useful: Oppressor & Oppressor MKII
This pair of motorcycles are some of the most infamous of all the vehicles in GTA Online and are the bane of any new player or player that cannot afford them. Each of these bikes has missile launchers with homing missiles to take down anything in your path and also have the capability to fly.
The original Oppressor can be launched into the air and take flight with deployable wings while the MKII can fly. While these aren't the most necessary vehicles in the game, they are a necessity for anyone who wants to participate in PVP and can also make Freemode missions like drug running a breeze.
5 Useless: Private Jet
The private jet is much like the yacht, nice to look at but pointless to own. It will run your stack of cash low with its massive price tag of ten million dollars and can really only be used in Freemode.
You can still purchase this if you have that neverending stack of cash or want to buy some shark cards to impress your friends, but it offers no use to you other than being a glorified chauffeur for anyone who wants to fly with you. Maybe stick to a jet or a helicopter before you purchase this.
4 Useful: Casino Penthouse & Paragon
This makes the list because of the use that not only the building offers, but the vehicle you get from it. This can seem like an excessive purchase since it can run you at least one and a half million dollars. What makes the purchase worth it is Ms. Baker. Unlocking the penthouse suite gives you a bunch of missions from Ms. Baker that can help give you back some of the money that you spent and also help with the casino heist.
Along with that, you get the beautiful Paragon R for completing all of the missions. This car makes the purchase worth it no matter what price you paid for the penthouse because it is completely armored and sports machine gun turrets under the hood. Since this vehicle can also be used during missions, it becomes even more useful.
3 Useless: Orbital Cannon*
Having a facility is nice. Having one allows a player to do the Doomsday Heist. The little bonuses like free snacks are nice as well. One of the parts of owning a facility is being able to purchase the Orbital Cannon. This is perhaps one of the biggest mistakes a player can make.
The Orbital Cannon allows a player to fire a massive laser shot down on another player. This sounds great until the cost of it comes into play. Purchasing the Orbital Cannon will run a player 900k and firing it is a minimum of 500k. This just isn't worth spending hard-earned cash on.
2 Useful: Nightclub*
The Nightclub is perhaps the best business to own in the game, but it is also the most expensive and confusing. Players who want to make the most out of the Nightclub will need to purchase all of the motorcycle club businesses (Weed Farm, Cocaine Lockup, Etc.).
Once that is done, a player can purchase upgrades in the Nightclub to make it earn money from these businesses on top of what the businesses make. There are guides to help players who are confused, but the Nightclub still stands as one of the most useful businesses in the game.
1 Useless: Shark Cards*
Sorry Rockstar, but the Shark Cards are probably the worst thing a player can buy in GTA Online. There are multiple ways to make money in the game. The downside is that all of these ways will take time. Players can get tired of the grind and they can also end up feeling like they will never make the money to buy the things they want.
New heists keep coming out and there are plenty of business opportunities for players to take part in that Shark Cards should be the last thing they will want to buy.
