It's been a long time coming, but Grand Theft Auto 5 has finally been announced by Rockstar Games. The internet has been abuzz with long standing rumors about when the fifth installment of the infamous GTA series may make its triumphant return, and while some key details on the mature-rated title are still M.I.A., the game's existence is finally confirmed.

Rockstar Games put up the official logo for Grand Theft Auto 5 on their website, along with some information regarding when gamers will finally be able to get more information on the upcoming project. Below the official logo for the upcoming game is the word 'trailer', followed by the date '11.02.11'. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this means fans of the franchise are now now forced to mark their calendar for Wednesday, November 2nd in preparation of the debut trailer for GTAV.

There's been talk about the fifth Grand Theft Auto since GTA4 was released, and speculation for the newly revealed game didn't die down when alleged GTA5 casting calls leaked onto the internet earlier this year. There were even mumblings that the game will be available as a Wii U launch title, and if the game's scheduled reveal is any indication that is still a very good possibility. Still, anyone hoping to score some hands-on time with the new game pre-2012 is probably out of luck, unless Rockstar is doing an Apple-esque unveiling.

One of the most noticeable things in the GTAV logo is the fact that the 'V' is green, and actually has 'five' bannered across it — maybe in an attempt to aid the numerically-illiterate. Since the font obviously resembles that used on American currency, it's a safe bet that the next game won't be taking place in some sort of socialist, money-free barter society.

Our guess is that it's an major indicator that points to where Grand Theft Auto 5 will take place, and given the evidence provided by the new logo, that place is the future*. In this new futuristic metropolis, society has abolished roman numerals, and it's up to the game's new protagonist to keep it that way. Who wouldn't buy a game with a plot that deep?!

* = Not even remotely confirmed.
