Grand Theft Auto 4 had one of the most impressive graphics modding communities in gaming, and it's only fitting that Grand Theft Auto 5 modding scene inherited that regard. And there are few examples of that as impressive as NaturalVision Evolved, which is being teased in a newly released trailer. NaturalVision Evolved is described by its creator Razed as an ambitious graphics overhaul that completely reworks Grand Theft Auto 5's lighting and weather.

NaturalVision Evolved's trailer teases a variety of features that are included with the mod's early access release. Lighting features include screen-space raytraced global illumination, enhanced screen space reflection (reflections are especially improved on buildings), and new emissive lights. New parallax mapped textures have also been added, as has "brighter and bigger" burnout smoke for vehicles. Rain has been added as a weather effect, which is particularly exciting combined with the reflection changes. Altogether, the mod creates a brighter and more vivid Grand Theft Auto 5 experience.

The NaturalVision Evolved mod is showcased in a brand new trailer intended to advertise the mod's early access release. The mod is currently only available through Razed's Patreon account and requires that supporters donate at least $10 a month to access the mod.

Razed also makes clear that the NaturalVision Evolved mod is compatible with FiveM, FiveM being a very popular mod that allows custom dedicated servers to host multiplayer in Grand Theft Auto 5. Custom servers will be able to host a NaturalVision Evolved-enhanced server that also features FiveM multiplayer.

NaturalVision Evolved isn't the first or the only graphics mod out there, but few manage to put together such an impressive trailer. The way the NaturalVision Evolved trailer is able to showcase an example of impressive lighting changes and reflection improvements is unique and overall quite stunning. That's one of the reasons Grand Theft Auto games' PC ports are so often looked forward to.

At the very least, even if Grand Theft Auto 5 players aren't interested in upgrading their game with mods, this trailer does offer something important — a look at possibilities. Next-gen console hardware and upcoming PC graphics cards are going to be uniquely enabled to provide the kind of raytraced lighting that NaturalVision Evolved shows here. Of course, providing that kind of lighting in a game as large as Grand Theft Auto probably isn't realistic. But GTA players can certainly hope.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
