Thanks to the modders Rapidiment and GTAFREAK67S, Grand Theft Auto 5's metropolitan setting has been turned into a post-apocalyptic landscape that's being reclaimed by nature, and it looks almost identical to The Last of Us. Using two separate mods, fans can play through a somewhat open world iteration of Naughty Dog's survival-horror classic by turning the main character into Joel and the Los Santos city centre into a scene of urban decay.

Should fans wish to experience a light version of The Last of Us with Grand Theft Auto 5's HUD, weapons, and control scheme intact, they will first have to install Rapidment's “After Us: Rodeo” mod, which provides the map. Then, in order turn the protagonist into Joel, GTAFREAK67S's “Joel (The Last of Us)” mod should be applied next.

By combining features from what are arguably two of the top games of the last generation, the results of both of the modders' creations working together is nothing short of fantastic, as it gives a makeover to GTA 5 that almost perfectly recreates the lush greenery and eerie vibe found in The Last of Us. Really, the only element that's missing in order to make the recreation complete is some undead action, but fans can rectify the issue with another mod from GTAZDevs' known as the "Grand Theft Zombies" script. Nevertheless, folks can get a better idea of how Rapidment's and GTAFREAK67S's mods operate with one another in YouTuber taltigolt's video below.

Obviously, this is far from the first time that Grand Theft Auto 5 has been given the mod treatment. In fact, fans of Rockstar Games' open world title have crafted so many different in-game alterations that by mixing and matching most of them, it's entirely possible for players to end up creating a completely new and original game.

For instance, if folks apply the Hulk mod — which is already reminiscent of Radical Entertainment's excellent The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction — alongside the modder Guadmaz's fan-made co-op story mode mod and then install the script that adds a fully functional version of Tony Stark's Mark III Iron Man armor, an unofficial open world Marvel crossover game would be born. And with the aforementioned Last of Us mods pushing the boundaries of mod creativity, there's no telling what fans will come up with next.
