Ever since Grand Theft Auto 5 was originally unveiled, fans pushed for Rockstar to bring their open world crime epic to PC. Besides simply wanting to play on their platform of choice, fans wanted to see Grand Theft Auto 5 make its way to PC so that the game could receive proper mod support.

Rockstar finally confirmed a PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5, and ever since, the game has received a healthy amount of mod support from the very creative modding community. There's been plenty of memorable Grand Theft Auto 5 mods released over the last few months, but this latest one combines Grand Theft Auto with one of the most popular RPG franchises of all time.

A modder by the name of JJxOracle has created and released a new mod for Grand Theft Auto 5 that injects a healthy dose of Mass Effect into the game, via Mass Effect's gargantuan Reapers. JJxOracle has replaced the in-game blimps that fly around the city in GTA 5 with the Reapers, making the Los Santos skies scarier than they've ever been before.

That being said, this Reaper mod isn't perfect just yet. There are some bugs present, causing the Reapers to inexplicably disappear, and another issue is that the Reapers lack collision detection. However, JJxOracle does plan on incorporating collision detection into the mod at some point in the future, among other changes and improvements. After all, the mod in its current state is just a beta.

Regardless of its issues, the mod is still very impressive, and should prove to be fairly amusing for fans of Mass Effect. Considering the popularity and sheer scope of Grand Theft Auto 5, it's not surprising that we're seeing such quality mod support for the game, like this new Reapers mod. If the lengthy mod support for Grand Theft Auto 4 is any indication, expect the mods for Grand Theft Auto 5 to just grow in number and improve in quality.

Besides this Reaper mod, there have been numerous other mods that have shown that the modding community is quite talented. For example, the photorealism mod gives the game life-like graphics, and the Iron Man mod allows players to transform their GTA characters into Marvel's iconic superhero.

Unfortunately, these mods can only be applied to the PC version of the game as of the time of this writing, but it's possible that console players will have a chance to enjoy these crazy and creative mods for Grand Theft Auto 5 eventually. Bethesda announced mod support on consoles for Fallout 4 at E3, and that of course leaves the door wide open for other developers to follow suit. CD Projekt Red has already discussed Witcher 3 mod support on consoles since Bethesda's announcement, and it would be a shame if Rockstar wasn't at least discussing the possibility.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently available for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Those interested in the Mass Effect inspired Reapers mod will have to stick with the PC version, of course.
