The open world game Just Cause 2 allows players to zip around its fictional dystopia, Panau, using an impressively versatile grappling hook. It is, quite simply, a lot of fun. In fact, Just Cause 2's grappling hook is so popular that developer Avalanche plans on bringing it back in the sequel, Just Cause 3.

However, given that Just Cause 3 is not slated for release until holiday of 2015, fans will have to wait quite a while before they can resume zipping around Just Cause's tropical metropolis. Thankfully, a modder who goes by the name JulioNIB just added the Just Cause grappling hook to Grand Theft Auto 5helping to tide fans over until Just Cause 3 arrives later this year.

The Grand Theft Auto 5 grappling hook works almost exactly like it does in Just Cause, especially when paired with a parachute, allowing players to move around and scale buildings very quickly. The grappling hook's other functions made it into GTA 5 as well: besides using the grappling hook to get around faster, players can also use it to tether objects together.

JulioNIB plans to improve the mod by allowing users to tether more that two items together, and later versions will incorporate more elements from the Just Cause universe. Eventually players will be able to hijack a car from its roof, or steal a helicopter while attached to it via a grappling hook. These death-defying feats will also appear in Just Cause 3, as indicated in the title's latest gameplay trailer.

This grappling hook mod is just the latest in a long line of mods that have been released for Grand Theft Auto 5 since its PC launch. Fans have already managed to give the game's characters a gravity gun and Superman's many powers.

That being said, one must exercise caution with downloading mods for GTA 5. While the vast majority of mods are safe, some are infected with malware. Furthermore, some mod users have been banned from GTA Online after using single player or cosmetic mods, something that Rockstar said it wouldn't do.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The grappling hook mod is only available to players with the PC version of the game.
