The Grand Theft Auto franchise is known for its sharp social satire, and Grand Theft Auto 5 is no different. Grand Theft Auto 5 pokes fun at just about everything, with one mission in particular taking aim at large tech companies like Apple. During this mission, players infiltrate a company that serves as a parody of Apple, and it is there that they get to see some of its fictional products on display, such as the iFruit 9iX. And as users on Reddit have pointed out, the iFruit 9iX actually predicts one of the most notable design choices of the recently released iPhone X.

Since its announcement back in September, many smartphone users have pointed out the iPhone X's "notch" on the top of its screen that gives it a unique look compared to other iPhones and smartphones in general. The notch has proven to be somewhat divisive, with some people liking how it makes the iPhone X look different and others feeling as though it makes the screen look cluttered. As can be seen in the image below (originally posted by Reddit user GVeslinov), Grand Theft Auto 5's iFruit 9iX features the notch four years before the iPhone X was even announced.

Did Grand Theft Auto 5 Predict the iPhone X Design? - iFruit 9iX

Of course, there are some important differences between Grand Theft Auto 5's iFruit 9iX and the real iPhone X. Perhaps the biggest difference is the notch doesn't extend onto the screen on the iFruit 9iX, instead relegated to a point just above the iFruit logo. The iPhone X is also larger than standard iPhones, whereas the iFruit 9iX is advertised in the game as being 3% thinner.

The coincidences between the iPhone X and iFruit 9iX are amusing, and it makes one wonder if there are similar "predictions" hidden in Grand Theft Auto 5. Maybe if more people revisit the story mode in the rumored Nintendo Switch port, even more predictions will be found.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
