After releasing on this month, it didn’t take long for Grand Theft Auto 5 players to start knocking out mods for the game. Modders have created a tsunami mod that sinks Los Santos, mods that allow players to teleport and slow down time, and a snowstorm that makes San Andreas a winter wonderland, but there is still plenty of untapped potential in Rockstar's latest game.

What about a mod that lets gamers play as a monkey, cat, fish, or a horse? No problem. Thanks to a new mod using ScriptHook, Grand Theft Auto 5 players on PC can now run the wild streets of Los Santos as pets and other lovable critters.

As the above and below videos show, once the mod has been loaded, players can quickly change their character to one of the available animals in the game. Many might not remember all of the critters that populate Los Santos, but it turns out there is a plethora of animal options for players to try out.

We will note, however, that the animal skins are only available in single player and cannot be used in multiplayer. So while players can’t run together in a pride of lions, they can still enjoy the experience of being the various creatures individually.

It’s these and other types of mods that help the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 - and most other games for that matter - stand out from their console counterparts. While console players only have access to new games content and add-ons as they are released by developers, PC players are able to experience new, and sometimes wild and unusual, updates to the games.

While playing as an animal may be a little bizarre, we doubt it this will be the strangest mod we see for the game. Grand Theft Auto 4 mods included superhero skins, dancing characters, drivable pianos, and other goofy and ridiculous add-ons and changes, so we’re sure to see gamers continue experimenting with unusual mods for Grand Theft Auto 5.

What do you think about the new mods in Grand Theft Auto V? Which animal will you be in the game? Share your pick in the comments.

Grand Theft Auto V is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
