After partaking in one of the longest finals in the Open era of tennis, you could say that Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic need a break -- however their virtual representations are only just getting started.

Set to release next week, Grand Slam Tennis 2 is EA Sports answer to the Virtua Tennis, but more importantly is a fully featured upgrade for the just-getting-started franchise. A demo is currently available, which shows off the new gameplay mechanics and teases a wide variety of modes, but for those who want a smaller tease, a new trailer has been released.

Featured in the trailer are many of the mainstays of the sport, from the high profile athletes that compete in it to the storied stadiums in which those competitions take place, all rendered in stunning HD graphics (a step up from Grand Slam Tennis' outdated Wii look). From the Australian Open to Wimbledon, all four Grand Slam championships will be available in the game.

Perhaps the most exciting new feature for Grand Slam Tennis 2, although it's unfortunately not highlighted in this particular trailer, is the new racquet control feature. Much like MLB 11: The Show's pure analogue controls, although not nearly as complicated or confusing, these racquet controls offer players the exact type of tennis experience they expect. The demo does the best job of selling the game, but check out the trailer below:

While Grand Slam Tennis might not have made the best first impression back in 2009 (the title had promised 360 and PS3 versions but those failed to release) this is a fresh start, and so far things are looking much improved. Having experienced the demo first hand -- albeit without the new PlayStation Move controls -- it's easy to see that the folks at EA Canada are doing their best to make Grand Slam another mainstay of the EA Sports catalogue.

Grand Slam Tennis 2 releases February 7, 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
