In the video game world, money glitches are nothing new. In most cases, these glitches give players a significant advantage in their single player campaign, but they don't "hurt" anyone. In the case of Gran Turismo 6's free money glitch, that isn't necessarily true.

First, a little back-story. Earlier this month it was revealed that Gran Turismo 6 would feature microtransactions, a first for the series. With these microtransactions, players would be able to use real money to purchase in-game currency and, in turn, buy better cars. However, the conversion rate for the in-game currency, called credits, was rather steep.

Still, despite the gamer backlash over the Gran Turismo 6 microtransactions, Sony reaffirmed that all cars could be earned the traditional way, by progressing through the game's career.  Or, if gamers wanted, they could pay more than $150 for one of the top cars.

It's with that skewed business model in mind that we bring the below video, which shows gamers how to earn a quick 20 million credits with little effort. And it all involves the most recent 1.01 update.

Coincidentally, this update was designed as a goodwill gesture, giving Gran Turismo 6 players access to a top tier Mercedes — one valued at more than 33 million credits. Unfortunately, the car's value, at least in the context of the microtransactions, supersedes the significance of the gesture.

While we don't know how long this glitch will work, we only draw attention to it because of the microtransactions and the substantial backlash that has formed around them. Had the game not used microtransactions, this glitch might come across as more of a "cheat" than anything else, but as it stands it's worth pointing out.

It's important to note, however, that the trick can only be used once via the above steps. Some gamers have reported being able to glitch their way into more money, but the formula seems to differ from player to player.

Obviously, this glitch is a more complex issue than most glitches, as it gives players nearly $150 worth of credits, so we expect Polyphony Digital to work much quicker than they would otherwise. And those gamers who want to get a leg up on the virtual competition better act fast.
