It has been described by us here at Game Rant as possibly the most anticipated PS3 exclusive title ever made. Unfortunately, it appears we will have to wait a bit longer. Gran Turismo 5 still needs a little more time in the oven.

First announced in 2006, the original release date was already pushed back. The last that we heard, the game was due to be released in North America on November 2. However, game designer Kazunori Yamauchi stated in a tweet yesterday:

“GT5 is getting to where it will be finished shortly,"

Although this statement may not alarm some gamers, in Gran Turismo terms, this could mean anything. Even though Yamauchi seemed upbeat, he also noted that:

“the development of GT games is always like this – that it's like they are nowhere near finished.”

Polyphony Digital has been working on this title for quite some time. Thankfully, they gave us a tasty treat in 2008 with the preview Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. There was a tiny bit of controversy at the time, as that title cost $40. This seemed like too much to pay for what was basically a giant demo for Gran Turismo 5 itself.

Not an arcade racer, the Gran Turismo series always prided itself on its realistic racing simulation and attention to detail. Not only is there much more detail to be included in the new iteration, maybe things are getting out of hand. At this year's E3 gaming expo, the designer said that the game might have "too much" detail. (Though Game Rant was certainly impressed when we got our hands on the game at the show.) I love how they are swinging for the fences, but how much longer is this going to take? In the meantime will they release Gran Turismo 5: Super More Prologue?

Just like in the film industry, game developers will often continue tweaking a project right up until its release date. We know that the Gran Turismo series is no exception. Also, there is always a balance between wanting the best game possible, and understanding the time it takes to develop and code said “best game.” We will have to wait and see if the November release date holds. All we know now is that with all of its racing simulation glory and graphics detail,  Gran Turismo 5 will simply be ready when its ready.

Gran Turismo 5 is expected to hit the road on November 2 in North America exclusively for the PlayStation 3, and will feature both the 2D and 3D versions of the game on the same disc.
