New 'Gran Turismo 5' Trailer Issued in Wake of Game's Delay

Gran Turismo 5 Goes Gold

Following the disappointing news of its seemingly inevitable delay, Sony has rushed out a new trailer for Gran Turismo 5. Comprised primarily of lingering, languid shots of the game's extraordinarily detailed cars, the trailer does a good job of displaying the absurd amount of work that has (so far) gone into creating the game.

Of course, the footage eventually moves out onto the track. Engines scream and tires squeal as the game displays a genuinely remarkable level of photo-realism. A new promotional video may not be as welcome as a new, solid release date, but at least it's something. Have a look at the new trailer for Gran Turismo 5:

No one is happy with Gran Turismo 5's latest delay. Not Sony, and not the team at Polyphony Digital. Addressing the situation yesterday, SCEA producer Taku Imasaki spoke bluntly:

"We're really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday. Realistically, we thought we had a good date. We're not happy over here."

Gran Turismo mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi took the time to apologize for the situation, posting the following to his twitter account:

"Apologies for the delay."

"It's because time and labor were spent ironing the kinks out of [the game's] complex system. I'm really sorry. Everyone, it's inexcusable... Wait a little longer."

Perhaps as an added gesture of condolance to fans, a few new images of the game's cars have made it online. Check them out below.

Though the game has obviously been a long time coming, it truly seemed that the wait for Gran Turismo 5 was near its end. Details on the game's hard drive install options had been revealed, several gorgeous trailers had been released, and an extravagant Signature Edition had been readied for retail. Yet here we are, seemingly as far away from the game's release as ever. Though SCEA's Imasaki is quick to  reassure gamers that Sony “is shooting for it to be out by the holidays," Gran Turismo 5 currently has no specific release date.

Ranters, what do you think of the latest Gran Turismo 5 trailer? Are you chomping at the bit to get your hands on the game, or are you not bothered by the latest delay?
