Hello again and welcome to another edition of GR Picks: Weekly Roundup! As I have said on numerous occasions, our writers don’t spend every waking hour writing fantastic stories and scintillating reviews. They also spend an unnaturally worrisome amount of their days hooked into those world-wide-web pages and watching the Youtubes. Some of them are complete slug-a-beds.
By simple law of averages, they occasionally come across humorous, or just plain weird, Internet nuggets and gather them for me to post here at the end of the week.
Kicking off this week’s selection is Super Mario Level – Japan TV Show. You and I know the Japanese will put anything on television. If it isn’t game shows in which contestants swing above a cage of live tigers with steak hanging out of their trousers, it’s booby-trapped toilets that catapult unknowing victims out onto a snow-capped mountain. Rarely, however, do they feature Mario, as this one does.
The art of – I don’t know what it’s called, but it features dressing people up all in-black and having them stand against a black background, manipulating objects so that they seemingly float by themselves – is something of a new phenomenon, but when it is done well, the results can be very impressive. This one, however, is not done well.
Watch out for an unconvincing President Obama at the 00:50 mark.
Next up, and a first for GR Picks, is a gallery of video-game related cakes. We all love cake, and we all love video games. Our mothers, girlfriends, and wives know this all too well, and so it is that their love for us is often manifested through the annual ritual of video game cake-makery. Sometimes the results are truly the work of cake artisans, and yet other times the results are lamentable in ways you cannot vocalize without hurting feelings.
Let’s take a look.
That’s going to do it for this week’s picks. If you find anything out there on the outskirts of the Internet that you want to see included in future GR Picks posts, drop us a line and I’ll be sure to add them. In the meantime, be sure to check in on Game Rant throughout the week for all the industry news and, of course, all the cutting-edge reviews from our talented writers!
