Let's face it, everyone loves Pokémon. Even if you're afraid to admit it in polite company, it doesn't matter. Here at Game Rant, we're all friends. We know that you know all the words to the Pokémon theme tune -- but it's ok, because so do we.
In case you're unfamiliar with the concept of a GR Pick, it's pretty easy to understand. We scour the depth and breadth of the internet, with the aim to find something kickass to share with you. Sometimes it takes the form of a horrible (but hilarious) Starcraft 2-related breakup video, other times it's a Videogame Wedding Proposal. This time, it's a singing man.
The young man's name is Danny Fong, and he decided to sing the Pokémon Theme Tune a cappella. The result is, quite simply, astounding. Fifty eight audio tracks, sixteen different videos and just one vocal artist combine to create a marvelous piece of nostalgia. Sure, some might argue that he doesn't have the strongest vocal performance in the world, or that his V-neck t-shirt is a little too deep a cut, but hey, who cares? The important factor here is the music, and boy it sounds great.
Now, I'll admit to many a science lesson where I lost track of my mind and began to hum the Pokémon theme tune. I'll even admit singing it out loud whilst crossing the street. I think it's fair to say that Fong's effort is far better than anything I could ever amount to, no matter how hard I tried. There's something quite special for me about the Pokémon theme; perhaps it is just simple nostalgia, but the lyrics (as clichéd and basic as they are) feel so inspiring. I listen to it and I think -- "You know what? I DO want to be the very best, like no one ever was. Thanks Ash, great idea!"
