The title may have leaked last month, but only now has Gotham Knights finally received a proper reveal. The next installment in this franchise is officially on the way now that Warner Bros Games Montreal has dropped the trailer at DC Fandome.

The trailer confirms a rumor that the game will heavily involve the Bat-Family beyond Batman, tasking them with keeping Gotham safe. However, perhaps more importantly, the trailer confirms some important antagonists that Gotham Knights will pit the Bat-Family against. Here are the villains that the new trailer confirms will appear in the new game.

Mr. Freeze

Mr. Freeze in Batman Arkham City

Just about any Batman fan can name Mr. Freeze as a classic antagonist, as this villainous alter ego of cryogenic scientist Victor Fries has been locking horns with the Caped Crusader since 1959. He's made iconic appearances, such as being played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Batman & Robin, and he's a well established figure in the Arkham series too. He's already made appearances as a boss. Although he apparently won't be contested by Bruce Wayne himself this time, he's still a favorite villain that's no surprise as an obstacle for the Bat-Family to overcome.

With that said, it's unclear what his general role in the game is at the moment. While it's possible that he has a connection to the game's main antagonists, his very brief appearance in the trailer didn't confirm anything one way or another. It could simply be that he's escaped Arkham Asylum and has to be defeated and reimprisoned. It's not unlikely that he has his own machinations that will part and parcel to the Bat-Family establishing themselves as Gotham's defenders. However, there's always the chance that he's part of a greater conspiracy of villains, doing something like helping the Court manage its minions.

The Court of Owls

This is perhaps the most important reveal of the trailer. It was long rumored and hinted that the Court of Owls would be the main antagonists in Gotham Knightsand if saving them for the very end is anything to go by, that rumor looks like it's true. The Court of Owls are particularly mysterious and intimidating as far as Batman's enemies are concerned. In the comics, this band of crime lords has been lurking in Gotham for many years, controlling the city's affairs from the shadows. Many of them are wealthy members of Gotham's elite class that exercise overt influence on the city in addition to their schemes.

For now, Batman fans will have to wait and see which members of the Court will appear in Gotham KnightsThere's always the chance that new members have appeared and that Warner Bros intends to shake up the lore of the Court of Owls' membership to add a little more mystery. However, knowing how the Court operates, there's a distinct chance that it might take a while to actually confront them. Instead, players will be contending with the Court of Owls' deadly minions.

Talons

The Court of Owls is famous for employing a small army of master assassins known as Talons. After being kidnapped as children, Talons are conditioned to be completely loyal to the court, extremely proficient in stealth and combat, and even nearly impossible to kill thanks to the Court's grim machinations. They don't roam the streets of Gotham in plain clothes like their masters; instead, they are kept in cryogenic stasis until needed for a mission. The trailer shows a vast array of coffins in an underground chamber, which is revealed as the place where Talons lie in wait.

There's a long list of named Talons that have made appearances in the comic books, and even they are only a portion of the Court of Owls' complete army. Still, all of these characters have their own established histories and might add a lot of depth to Gotham Knights by being living lenses into the history of the Court's crimes. These people have already left a mark on Gotham's history, and now it's up to the Bat-Family to put an end to the Court of Owls' legacy.

Gotham Knights is set to launch in 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
