One of the most important aspects of Gotham Knights is combat. Players get to choose between Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin to patrol Gotham City fighting enemy organizations and investigating crime scenes following the death of Gotham's Dark Knight. The combat is simple at first glance, but as the game progresses, more powerful moves become available.

Compared to the Batman: Arkham games, the combat system was built from the ground up by WB Games Montréal, but it is still a brawler; hand-to-hand combat is prevalent in almost every mission. The heroes will get the opportunity to earn XP to level up when they complete Case Files, Side Quests, or defeat enemies. While every character has a unique fighting style, the attack mechanics are the same. With training and practice, players can cut through anyone without breaking a sweat. One way to handle a lot of enemies or larger enemies in Gotham Knights is by landing Perfect Attacks.

How To Do A Perfect Attack

Gotham Knights Perfect Evade and Attack

Perfect Attacks come down to timing. When spotted by enemies, they attack on sight with melee weapons, firearms, explosives, or fists, depending on their classification. There usually are few opportunities for 1v1 fights, so getting barraged is typical. Players can utilize combos, skills, and abilities in conflicts to avoid getting overwhelmed. Players can use a Perfect Attack by dodging right before a hit is landed and following with an attack move. Perfect Attacks can be practiced at the Belfry in the training area and are only available after learning the Perfect Evade skill. They will take some time to perfect, but there are some hints for when to move.

Gotham Knights Perfect Evade

The training area is the best place to get started with Perfect Attacks. Batman will greet the chosen character and then talk them through the move that is being trained. The training area has dummy enemies that will swing at players but don't deal any damage. Whenever an enemy is gearing up to land a hit, a white circle will appear around their fist. Large enemies will have red circles. Right when the ring is at its smallest, players should dodge the attack and follow it with an attack immediately for it to be a Perfect Attack. These usually knock the target off their feet or stun them for a moment giving players time to build up momentum and land combo attacks. Red Hood, in particular, has his projectiles, so he can distance himself from the attacker and still get damage following a Perfect Attack.

Perfect Evade is just one skill players can get to assist in combat. Skill categories cover a wide range of attack patterns and weapons used. One of the exceptional skill sets is Knighthood Abilities earned from Knighthood Challenges. Players also have access to Momentum Abilities, which are unique for each character, earned by leveling up and completing challenges. Regardless of the strategy, combat in Gotham Knights is complex but not complicated, and players can master it fairly quickly with practice.

Gotham Knights is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
