Although Gotham Knights' Heroic Assault Game Mode was confirmed before release, it was something that didn't make it into the game for launch, but its release date is basically here: November 29. WB Games Montreal's official social media page for the game mode has revealed a new promo for the feature, including Starro.Previously, only a small summary of Gotham Knights' new game mode has been provided, but it does give fans some basic expectations. Unlike the main game which mostly takes place in the open streets of Gotham City, this entire game mode puts players into a tighter arena that features 30 floors of enemies, objectives, and so on. It is not connected to the larger world or main campaign, but it seems these will deal with new enemies at least.RELATED: Comparing the State of Marvel and DC GamesThe social media account promises that "a challenger from the stars arrives in Gotham tomorrow," showing what is clearly Starro in a container of some sort. Many less DC-versed fans may recognize Starro from The Suicide Squad, but it has a long history in the comics. Starro was first introduced in 1960 and was the first villain to face the original Justice League of America. As is apparent, Starro is a giant starfish with a single, central eye that doubles as a highly-advanced alien life form. In its comic arrival, it empowers three starfish that wreak havoc on earth, exploding an atomic bomb, kidnapping scientists, and taking mental control of certain cities.

While it remains to be seen, it's likely that the mental control explains the fodder enemies fought in Gotham Knights' Heroic Assault game mode, hopefully ending in with a boss fight with Starro at large. How the Knights would face such a colossal creature is questionable, though it seems they could perhaps shrink it somehow based on the promo image, unless these starfish are also involved.

The most exciting element beyond the four-player co-op is clearly the new villain to face. Gotham Knights' boss battles are far and few between, with many disappointed to know that only three major villains appear in the game that are largely unattached from the main story. If Heroic Assaults bring in more, that's likely to be exciting for many fans.

Gotham Knights is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
