Gotham Knights will get a four-player cooperative game mode after its scheduled launch later this month. It officially releases next week on October 21 on current-gen consoles and PC, while the PS4 and Xbox One versions were canceled earlier this year. Gotham Knights was set to launch on October 25, but in a surprising turn of events, the release date was moved up four days.

It allows gamers to play as Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood, with each character having their own playstyle and abilities. The game supports two-player drop-in drop-out cooperative gameplay, but users can choose to play on their own as well. It also looks like two players can select the same character when playing Gotham Knights in co-op mode. Now, WB Games Montreal has revealed that Gotham Knights will get a new game mode that allows four fans to play together.

This Gotham Knights mode is called Heroic Assault, and it will launch for free on November 29, just a month after the game’s official release. The Twitter account of Gotham Knights has posted a link to an FAQ that shares further details regarding this four-player cooperative experience. It confirms that Heroic Assault will be separate from the main story of Gotham Knights. While playing this mode, users will fight enemies in an arena-like environment, and they will be tasked with completing specific objectives.

The Heroic Assault game mode for Gotham Knights will feature 30 floors in total, and users will require a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription to play online. Judging by the FAQ, Heroic Assault appears to be a standard wave defense game mode with a few objectives to mix up the gameplay.

As co-op in the main story is limited to two only, it gives fans a great opportunity to see all four characters in action at the same time. Assuming there are no restrictions related to character selection, gamers can probably even select all four of the same hero in Heroic Assault. If this mode turns out to be a success, perhaps the developer can add more floors or challenges to drive fan engagement and increase the longevity of Gotham Knights.

Fans interested in playing the game should note that Gotham Knights takes around 41 GB of storage space on PS5. This number appears to be pretty reasonable for a AAA game, especially when some games are nearing or surpassing the 100 GB mark.

Gotham Knights releases on October 21 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
