After a few leaks and rumors earlier in the year, the virtual DC FanDome event finally confirmed that WB Montreal's latest project is Gotham Knights. The game seemingly kills off Batman and places his Bat Family in the lead role, letting players select between characters like Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Nightwing. Following it's reveal a few months ago, the game has seemingly gone dark, though new details have started to come to light including a major single player feature.

Fans already have seen Gotham Knights running in two player co-op, but the team has also confirmed that similar to the older Batman Arkham games, fans can play through the game entirely solo as one character as well. Questions remained around the single player experience however as many games these days claim to be or support solo players, but continue to require that players be connected to the internet in order to play at all.

In a recent interview, senior producer Fleur Marty confirmed that solo players can experience the full game not only by themselves but offline as well. When playing offline, players won't miss out on any content by not being connected to the online servers. While the team believes that teaming up and experiencing the game through co-op is a great experience, they don't want to force that playstyle on everyone.

In this sense, Gotham Knights tends to follow more along the lines of a classic Batman Arkham experience rather than something along the lines of Marvel's Avengers. While that game can also be played solo, fans are required to have an active internet connection as well as taking a team of AI heroes along as well. Either way, being able to truly play the game offline should please fans as it seems to be an option that becomes more and more rare these days.

Recently, it was also revealed that Gotham Knights is going to feature additional gameplay moments outside of the main story with the Court of Owls. Players can take on Villain Crime missions which spans a series of encounters over a set period of nights in Gotham. Players will have to do the legwork on each case which includes detective work to not only identify the villain but track them down as well. WB Montreal is attempting to use these moments to help make the player feel all of the work they've invested in protecting Gotham City.

Gotham Knights will be coming in 2021, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
