Done with Arkham City? Looking for a new bat-challenge on a different bat-channel? Look no further, for the delayed Gotham City Imposters, originally slated for a January 10, 2012 launch, has finally launched.

Gotham City Impostors is a downloadable only, first person multiplayer shooter that looks, according to our own Jeff Schille, "gaudy" and "bizarre," but in a good way. The game allows up to 12 players to battle for control of a completely unhinged Gotham City that has been overrun by imposters of both Batman and The Joker.

Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President of Production and Development for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, said Gotham City Imposters is unlike any other game on the market today.

"Gotham City Impostors is a unique first-person multiplayer shooter that delivers a completely different Batman experience that is irreverent, fun and humorous. The game is unlike any other on the market today and gives fans the opportunity to play the game in whichever way they want to play."

Impostors will be an extremely fast paced -- not to mention highly unconventional -- urban warfare game where players can level up and gain access to a wide array of character customization options, including traditional bat-gear like gliders and grappling hooks, to the completely bizarre -- bear traps and spring boots.

Five maps and four game modes are included in the title, including Team Deathmatch and all-out combat. There are also single-player components of the game as well that allow players to safely explore the different maps and practice using different weapons, support items, and gadgets.

Sometime in March there will be a free content pack available to players which will include a new map called the '25th Floor" and over 100 new customization options. Has it been mentioned that this game is highly customizable?

The single player component of Gotham City Impostors strikes me as something that is missing from many multiplayer games. It reminds this gamer of 'sandbox' modes that are popular in many popular building simulations, like the old Roller Coaster and Railroad Tycoon franchises. While not entirely the same, giving players the ability to test their loot and device strategies without the weight of other players bearing down on them should add a very interesting element to the game. Considering the customization level of the title, this is an excellent idea.
