Here’s what we know so far about Gotham City Imposters thus far: it’s a game that’s set somewhere in the Batman universe… but not really. Releasing for the Xbox Live and PSN next winter, Gotham City Imposters lets players join “Team Batz” or “Team Jokerz” to shoot the living daylights out of each other.
Needless to say, it’s not your typical Batman fare – even with the little that we know.
Warner Bros. is going to unveil a little more come September when the Beta opens up but Monolith and Warner Bros. are letting people sign up now at the official Gotham City Impostors site for a closed beta experience – where they will take some pretty heavy readings on what works and what doesn’t in preparation for the big release scheduled for next year. Unfortunately, nothing else has been discussed about the beta: no modes, characters, weapons, or anything in between.
We should be receiving more info from Warner Bros. in the next few weeks – no doubt the title is a weird fit for the Batman universe and, as a result, may be one of the more interesting betas released in September. Batman’s Thunder will no doubt be diminished by Ubisoft’s Assassin Creed Revelations which will open their multiplayer beta doors next month – in addition to the Transformers MMO beta.
But with its focus on team unity, and zany combat mechanics (come on, a jack-in-the-box landmine?) players should be lining-up to get in on the Gotham City Impostors action – if for no other reason than to play as Batman… with a gun.
Since the official release is still a year away, it’s possible that this might not be the only opportunity for a Gotham City Impostors beta – maybe a second round will be announced for early 2012? With Batman: Arkham City releasing in October, it would make sense for Warner Bros. to include a beta code – for those that missed out the first time around.
Are you going to try and get in the Batz-beta? Are you more excited for “Team Batz” or “Team Jokerz”?
Gotham City Imposters is scheduled for a Winter 2012 release.
