Although the streaming-focused console hasn't had the smoothest of launches, Google Stadia continues to expand into the gaming sphere as time wears on, adding huge games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla in recent weeks. It seems Google is looking to push its new platform even further through the announcement that iOS devices can now run the streaming service, adding Apple platforms to the range of outlets able to run Google Stadia releases.

The announcement was made yesterday via the Google Stadia Twitter page, revealing that players waiting to access the streaming service can now do so through the Safari browser app. After accessing the Stadia home page through the browser, players can boot up a range of titles on their phone or iPad, with users able to connect a wireless controller through their WiFi or the use of a Bluetooth connection.

This will likely come as something of a relief to Stadia owners on iOS devices, many of which were told a version of the streaming-console would hit Apple platforms back at launch. While an app has existed for iOS users for a while, it only let those who accessed it set up an account or manage settings rather than play any titles.

It seems the reason behind the extensive delay was due to Apple's strict guidelines regarding video game streaming services, the likes of which rendered it very difficult for Stadia to make an appearance on the App Store. The workaround appears to be using Safari as a middle-man, with Google suggesting players bookmark the in-browser page for ease of access. The new regulations have been a burden for many currently in the video game streaming space, with Microsoft specifically speaking out against the app store's new rules.

It'll be interesting to see whether the new port of the streaming service signals something of a resurgence for Google Stadia, the likes of which hasn't exactly taken off as many hoped. Not only did players report a number of technical issues with the virtual console at launch, but it also struggled to offer enticing games to bring audiences back in, with the Stadia library currently boasting very few exclusives. However, with the release of Cyberpunk 2077 now on the console and recent Ubisoft games such as Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and Immortals: Fenyx Rising also available for purchase, it seems some fans are embracing Google's streaming venture more than ever.
