Surprising many a Destiny 2 fan, a representative on the official Google Stadia Twitter account described Destiny 2's popular upcoming cross-save feature as a one-time transfer across several messages. According to the representative, to play Destiny 2 on Google Stadia players would have to purchase the game on the platform independently of other PC storefronts and then perform a "one time transfer of your Destiny guardian to Stadia from a different platform." Bungie has since clarified that this is incorrect and that Google Stadia will support full, persistent cross-saves.

As Bungie has clarified now and in the weeks since cross-saves were first announced, Google Stadia's description is wholly inaccurate. Cross-saves are ubiquitous between all supported Destiny 2 platforms. Players will be able to carry their Guardian's progress across all platforms they play on, just not more than one platform at a time.

Many Guardians were worried at first, however. Google Stadia's unique cloud-gaming structure had many wondering if perhaps it would be an exception to Bungie's cross-save plans. Perhaps cross-saves wouldn't work on Google Stadia the same way they do on other platforms and a one-time transfer was the best it could manage. This is, as Bungie has clarified, incorrect, and Guardians planning to use Stadia's service need not worry.

The most likely scenario is that this Google Stadia representative was given obsolete information or a script without updated details on Destiny 2 cross-saves. This happens quite often, especially around E3, and makes a lot of sense considering Google Stadia is new to this kind of business. The customer service representative may even be new to video games entirely. Clarification came quickly from Bungie and Google Stadia is certain to have its script updated shortly.

To be clear, Bungie has officially announced that cross-saves in Destiny 2 are a persistent service and not a one-time transfer. This service will be supported on Google Stadia and all other platforms, as confirmed today by Bungie community manager Cozmo. Bungie has even released a screenshot of the upcoming cross-save UI from Destiny 2 that reads, "Your Active Character Set will be the characters that will be playable on all your connected platforms," followed by platforms including Google, Steam, and Xbox Live.

Cross-saves are coming, to Google Stadia and all other Destiny 2 platforms. Hopefully, today's confusion doesn't cause any extra stress for Destiny 2 players looking forward to playing on new platforms.
