Google is certainly no stranger when it comes to sneaking in video game Easter Eggs into their website - remember when they did that Pokemon challenge feature for Google Maps? Today, the Google team has decided to embrace their playful side again, by replacing the Google Maps Street View icon with a familiar fairy boy that every gamer should recognize.

Load up Google Maps and users will notice that the little yellow Google man has been replaced by none other than Link, the Hero of Time himself. Other than the novelty of dangling Link over every street on Earth, this Easter Egg works in exactly the same way as the normal Google Street icon does.

For a mere Easter Egg, the amount of detail that Google put into Link is staggering. From Link's trademark Master Sword and Hylian shield to his blonde sideburns, the Google team got every detail perfect on a 360 degree miniature scale. To highlight the amount of effort put in, Nintendo UK tweeted out a picture of Google's take on Link:

It's probably no surprise that Google created this The Legend of Zelda Easter Egg, as it happens to coincide with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD on Wii U. It appears that the release of Twilight Princess HD is just the beginning, though, as 2016 is shaping up to be a big year for Nintendo.

Legions of patient Zelda fans may finally have their patience rewarded, as the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda Wii U is still targeting a 2016 release date. Couple that with Pokemon's 20th anniversary being celebrated with a new 3DS bundle, the highly-anticipated Pokemon Sun and Moon launching later this year, and 2016 marking the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise, there's much to look forward to from Nintendo in the upcoming months.

In addition to the upcoming games from Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda, it is widely expected that Nintendo are going to release their new Nintendo NX console sometime in July 2016. Couple those Nintendo NX speculations with rumors of a Nintendo NX portable handheld being built alongside the console, it's not hard to see why Nintendo could have a massive 2016.

With reports circulating around that Nintendo plan on launching The Legend of Zelda Wii U alongside the Nintendo NX, there is much to be excited about for every Nintendo and Zelda fan out there.
