Not too long ago, Microsoft announced its own game subscription service called Xbox Game Pass, which works somewhat similarly to Sony Interactive Entertainment's equivalent dubbed PlayStation Now, with the recent reveal leading many to speculate that the future of gaming will focus primarily on digital distribution. Now, it looks as if the American technology firm Google could be looking to throw its hat into the ring when it comes to the practice, as the company is rumored to be working on its own game streaming service under the code name "Yeti".

This bit of scuttlebutt comes from a recent report published by The Information, with the outlet suggesting that several “people with knowledge on the project” are reporting that Google is looking into its own subscription-based game streaming service. According to the report, "Yeti" is under development right now, with the company investing a large amount of time and effort into the project.

According to The Information's report, Google might allow its potential game service to be accessed through the company's own Chromecast digital media players, with players only needing online access and a controller of some kind to play. However, there's another possibility, as Google may actually have its own console in the works. It's worth stressing, though, that neither of these methods – much less Google's rumored game streaming service – have been confirmed just yet.

All things considered, it wouldn't be too farfetched if Google wound up delving into the video game market by offering its own game streaming service, especially with the company having recently hired the former PlayStation and Xbox executive Phil Harrison for ideas. What's more is that The Information reports that Google apparently intended to release its Yeti service in time for 2017's holiday season, but the launch was delayed for undisclosed reasons. With this possibly being the case, perhaps we will see the tech titan unveil its own game streaming service in a major way with an appearance at E3 2018.
