The new $50 Chromecast for Google TV is now available for customer purchase, and will be supporting various streaming platforms on it, with a couple exceptions. Apple TV Plus won't be available on the new device, but surprisingly, Google's new device will not be able to support Google Stadia, at least for a while.

The new Google Chromecast device was released today at the time of this article, and it seems to have plenty to offer new and current users. It has a new TV-interface with the supported Android TV as the foundation of its operating system, and can utilize multiple streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and more. The new device even costs $20 less than the previous Chromecast Ultra. However, a major hiccup emerged that may prove to be an inconvenience to users; the new Chromecast can't use Google Stadia Pro.

As reported on The Verge, the new Google Chromecast won't be able to support the Google Stadia Pro for a while. Just as Google Stadia Pro is gearing up for October, this information can appear discouraging, but the report proposed a different angle. The Verge was able to gain access to the device for review and reported that Stadia didn't come officially installed on the device, nor does it properly work on it, either. The reviewers were able to bypass the issue by "sideloading" Stadia from the Android App onto the device, but it only worked to a point.

There could be either a technical issue between the two devices or a possible latency issue, as the new Chromecast operates on the Android TV operating system instead of the OS for the Chromecast Ultra. The various layers of operating systems may play a part in why the device can't fully support Google Stadia at this point in time. This includes the Android TV at the base, the new Google TV interface in the middle, and the Cast at the top, with which you can cast videos but not games.

With new games coming to Google Stadia for October, this only adds more issues for the streaming service to deal with. However, Google told The Verge that the company is already working to resolve the issue, and that users and prospective buyers can expect to have the game streaming service supported on the new Chromecast by the first half of 2021.
