Although it has taken quite some time, Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition launches next month for PC. The Windows Edition will include everything that the Royal Edition contains, with both releasing on the same day. In an interview, the Windows Edition’s technical director and lead programmer Takeshi Aramaki spoke about the future of the franchise on the PC.

Simply put, he stated that “it’s a good chance” future Final Fantasy games will launch on the PC and sooner. This game took so long because “one of the things we were mindful of was that we didn’t want to make it a direct port, we wanted to develop it as a game for PC,” according to Kenichi Shida the game design and development manager. This should be good news for PC gamers, as it hopefully means a better and smoother experience for them.

According to Aramaki, the development of Final Fantasy XV for PC also provided the internal development team valuable experience. Because the team worked with adapting the game’s Luminous engine to a range of PC hardware and specs, future installments could be even better thanks to the experience. In summation, Aramaki stated, “the next game we make using Luminous will be much quicker in coming out on PC, and there’s a base for us to challenge ourselves further.”

With the PC version receiving all the DLC available for the game and Royal Edition, it’s clear the internal development team has been working hard to bring this game to PC. After all, the team even included a Half-Life costume for fans of Valve’s first-person shooter. Notably, however, the Half-Life pack is only available for the Steam version of the game if purchased by May 1, 2018.

Of course, no interview about Final Fantasy can end without a question concerning the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII remake, to which Shida responded, “we honestly can’t tell you what they’re planning!” At the very least, Final Fantasy fans can enjoy the Windows Edition and/or Royal Edition of Final Fantasy XV while waiting on the remake. Hopefully, news concerning the new game teased by a Final Fantasy XV director will also be available soon thereafter and may have a “good chance” of coming to PC sooner.

Final Fantasy XV is available now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a PC release set for March 6, 2018.
