All Bond fans have been waiting for the upcoming 25th James Bond film, No Time To Die, to join the franchise. This will be the last 007 film for Daniel Craig, who has been playing James Bond for 15 years up until this point. Craig’s unflinching presence has made it nearly impossible for many to envision someone else taking on such a classic role as the iconic spy. Yet, all those notions seem to be going out the door for fans ever since a rare video featuring Idris Elba started to surface online.

The short clip that is making its way through Twitter rapidly shows an audience’s reaction to the 1995 film GoldenEye, the 17th addition to the James Bond series. It all started when a huge James Bond fan found a publicity clip of the audience’s reaction to the 1995 film, which featured Pierce Brosnan’s debut in the role as James Bond. The clip actually took place back in England and the audience was interviewed in order to see how Brosnan as Bond was being received thus far.

At the end of the clip, an incredibly young Idris Elba, of all people, was being questioned in regards to his opinion. Elba’s baby face is front and center as he stands there with his friend by his side to share his thoughts on Brosnan's interpretation and performance as James Bond. Elba’s fan base has strength in numbers and passion, so it’s no surprise that fans went crazy for this clip. As a result, "Idris Elba" was trending on Twitter and fans are petitioning for him to take on the role of James Bond after the upcoming film No Time To Die.

The love for Elba has to be powerful enough to beat out Daniel Craig's reigning role as James Bond, one for which the latter has received admiration and praise. 15 years feels like an eternity in Hollywood. The fact that a short flash of Elba’s reaction to Brosnan’s acting is making fans lobby and champion him to become to new Bond is a little shocking. Elba’s remarks on Brosnan as James Bond in GoldenEye showed him somewhat indifferent. He stated, “He’s really good, he’s got all the charm. He’s got all the looks. And he’s fit and strong and blah, blah, blah. He’s all right.”

Although Elba didn’t say anything negative about the film or Brosnan, he is definitely not giving out a ringing endorsement in response. Time will tell what the future holds for James Bond when Craig is done with the role, but for many, Elba is the obvious choice for the next 007.

James Bond will return when No Time To Die hits theaters on October 8th, 2021.
