When it comes to vehicle missions in games there are those that try and immerse the player in realistic driving physics as they zip around turns and there are those that go over the top. As far as the larger than life vehicle missions go, you would be hard pressed to find a better sequence than the tank in GoldenEye. We are happy to announce that the beloved destruction-fest is making a return in GoldenEye 007 for the Wii.
This tank sequence looks to pack all that you would expect: destructible environments, off road traversal, and enemies from land and air. At the climax of the clip, Bond even runs a subway train off its wheels. Graphically speaking the game is major improvement over its N64 counterpart. The destructible environments seen in the trailer suggests that there is more to this game than your regular corridor FPS. Big action is definitely on the menu when it comes to this Wii update.
GoldenEye on the Nintendo 64 stands out as one of the main reasons that the First Person Shooter genre was able to make its transition to the console. With the newly revamped GoldenEye for the Wii, developer Eurocom is hoping lightning strikes twice. The addition of Daniel Craig as this game’s iteration of Bond helps bring the game into the here and now but might take away from the nostalgia factor a bit.
Multiplayer has always been the bread and butter of GoldenEye so expect the Wii version to be just as compelling and inventive. New modes and playable characters takes gamers back to the days of old while still including the types of features we have come to expect.
As long as the game delivers a solid multiplayer experience on the Wii (something that is hard to come by) that carries the subtle hint of retro flavor, I think it will sell very well. The single player has all the makings of a game that pays homage to the moment to moment action sequences from its predecessor while still utilizing thee updated tech. Give me a tank, a suit, and a martini and I’m ready for some fun.
Does this deviation from the FPS element of GoldenEye 007 make you any more interested in the game?
GoldenEye 007 releases for the Wii and DS on November 2nd.
