A video containing upwards of 30 minutes of gameplay footage for an unreleased remastered version of developer Rare's GoldenEye 007 on Xbox 360 appears online.

It's safe to say at this point that GoldenEye 007 is not only considered by many to be one of the most enjoyable first-person shooters ever made, but also a classic when it comes to all of the releases in video game history, leaving lots of fans desiring a proper sequel. With that being the case, back in 2007 and 2008, Rare was looking to update the title for audiences during the last generation of consoles by partnering with Microsoft and Activison — the latter of which was the copyright holder to the James Bond brand —  to bring GoldenEye 007 to Xbox 360 for the platform's Xbox Live Arcade.

Surprisingly enough, Nintendo had agreed to a publishing deal with the tech organizations at the time, which would have resulted in a fascinating cross-company development project. Unfortunately, though, Nintendo Japan supposedly nixed the game for unknown reasons just months before GoldenEye 007's planned release on Xbox 360.

What remains from the failed port of GoldenEye 007 to Xbox 360 can be found in Rare Thief's video below which contains a little more than 30 minutes of gameplay footage, including the title's single-player campaign. Not to mention, there's also a sparse bit of multiplayer action toward the end, but it's important to note that only one person is taking part in it.

For those unable to watch the video due to some unforeseen circumstances, the video above begins with GoldenEye 007's Dam mission, while Surface, Facility, Cradle, and Aztec also go on to be displayed. The graphics have been updated considerably, while the music and sound effects are just as crisp and engaging as ever before. Perhaps most interestingly, though, is the fact that some sequences segue between the original's graphics and the now-cancelled Xbox 360 version on the fly, which apparently would have been a feature found in the game upon its release, making the title running at 60 FPS that much more noticeable.

Much like with the original Nintendo 64 version of GoldenEye 007, Rare developers scanned their faces in for the Xbox 360 remaster in order to provide mugs for non-playable characters. Of course, no gaming fans got to experience this aspect first-hand, as the project got squashed, but it did lead to Activision's release of the middling GoldenEye: Reloaded for Wii in 2010, and then PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.

While GoldenEye 007 never officially got remastered for the Xbox 360, the spirit of giving the original an intense facelift with gameplay tweaks and graphical enhancements has never really died, as the modding community recently released a mod update for the fan-made GoldenEye: Source 5.0, which sports a full-fledged recreation of the title's multiplayer. Of course, should one be looking for even more of a novelty experience with the James Bond shooter, gamers can try out GoldenEye 007's Dam level in Doom on PC.

Although there are many permutations of GoldenEye 007, the true original can be played on the Nintendo 64.
