Fans of Rare's 1997 Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007 have another reason to be excited for the re-imagining due out November 2nd for the Wii. Activision has just announced that they will release a second version of the game along side the standard release. This 'Classic Edition' will include a gold colored Classic Wii Controller along with the game for $69.99.
GoldenEye 007 seems to be giving gamers a lot of options when it comes to control settings. Along with support for the Classic Controller, it will also support some other Wii control schemes. You can use the nunchuk and Wii Remote, like other FPS games on the Wii, or even use the Wii Zapper if you prefer. This is a good move by Eurocom, the developer of the game. Having multiple control options will allow gamers to find the control scheme that works for them instead of being forced to use potentially uncomfortable motion controls.
It is clear that Activision and Eurocom's goal with this game is to capture the magic of the original. Back in 1997, when GoldenEye 007 was first released, gamers were blown away by the great controls and amazing graphics (for the time). The new GoldenEye 007 seem to be on track by continuing to offer a great playing and looking experience on the Wii.
Executive producer Julian Widdows describes what Eurocom is attempting to accomplish on the under-powered system:
"They're pushing it incredibly hard, I mean the graphics are phenomenal and their production values, both cinematic and facial animation production values, the destructibility is incredible for the platform."
I am curious to see if this game can capture the magic of the original which lead to many long weekend nights in high school playing split screen multiplayer with my friends. Personally, I am not a fan of using the Wii Remote to aim at the screen, as it puts my wrist in an uncomfortable position. Being able to experience the multiplayer, which Game Rant got some hands on time with at E3, with a controller instead of motion controls is a big step in the right direction for me.
