Fans excited for the highly-anticipated Godzilla vs. Kong film will be interested in a recently unveiled shot-for-shot LEGO remake of the movie's trailer. The alternative version uses audio from the original trailer and features an explosive battle between LEGO King Kong and LEGO Godzilla.
The upcoming MonsterVerse film is the sequel to 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Adam Wingard’s sci-fi action-adventure cast includes Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Rebecca Hall (The Town), and Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta). They will star alongside Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler, who will reprise their roles from King of the Monsters.
Godzilla vs. Kong marks the first time the iconic beasts will have battled it out on the big screen since the 1962 film, King Kong vs. Godzilla. Unlike the previous iteration, it has been reported that the new version will feature a definitive winner. Kong first appeared in the MonsterVerse universe in Kong: Skull Island while Godzilla was featured, of course, in Godzilla and King of the Monsters, where he was last seen battling his arch-rival, King Ghidorah. Based on the trailer, it appears that Kong is the hero who is tasked with protecting civilization from the villainous titan.
Despite King of the Monsters' disappointing domestic box office showing, Godzilla vs. Kong is one the most anticipated films of 2021. Its trailer surpassed over 15 million views in 24 hours and had the largest preview debut for any Warner Bros. film. It accumulated 25.6 million views on all platforms and outperformed the trailers for The Batman (22 million) and Dune (20.8 million).
After numerous pandemic related delays, the film is slated to open in theatres and be released on HBO Max this March. This comes after Warner Bros. controversially decided to release 17 of their films simultaneously in theatres and on the streaming platform. The decision was met with a fair amount of criticism from theater owners and those who work in the film and television industry, including the production company behind Godzilla vs. Kong.
Legendary, which financed around 75% of Godzilla vs. Kong’s budget, publicly voiced their displeasure with this decision and threatened to take the studio to court. The two sides eventually made amends and reached a deal on the film's release.
Godzilla vs. Kong is set to premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on March 26.
