The Godzilla vs. Kong trailer was a huge success for Legendary and Warner Bros. pictures when it premiered almost a month ago, raking in over 60 million views on YouTube alone so perhaps it’s no surprise the trailer has gotten several fan-made recreations, including a LEGO one.
Even Mortal Kombat’s fatality laden new trailer simply lacks the mass appeal that Godzilla vs. Kong brings to the table, after all, the latter’s concept dates back to 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla, a Japanese classic in its own right. Regardless of that, with Godzilla vs. Kong continuing to get changes in its release date, fans continue to put their best skills to work in order to give the internet plenty of bliss themed around these two giant monsters.
Among those is a recent rework of the Godzilla vs. Kong trailer done by the JKK films YouTube channel which turns into Godzilla vs. Kong vs. a cat. The video, aptly named “I put my cat Wayne in the Godzilla vs Kong trailer”, features Wayne the cat moving around the apocalyptic landscape in quite a cat-like manner while the other two juggernauts duke it out, though it must be said that Wayne apparently possesses fire-breathing powers to match Godzilla’s energy blasts. Despite being only 27 seconds long, every single frame is worth watching.
It’s unclear what other kind of powers the black furred Wayne may be gifted with, aside from his sheer furniture scratching might, but the feline titan certainly looks comfortable in his surroundings. Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgård and Millie Bobby Brown, though only a couple of shots are given to the human actors in the fan-made trailer it really doesn't matter too much as the film's stars are clearly the CGI wonders that are Godzilla and King Kong, just like the recent combat teasers suggest.
Godzilla vs. Kong's latest scheduling moves have it in line for a dual theatrical and streaming release on HBO Max starting March 31 in the United States, with the film getting a head start in theaters worldwide starting March 26. The movie was originally slated for March 13 last year before the pandemic, though if further delays push creators to continue to make Godzilla vs. Kong inspired Nintendo creations, it would have been well worth the wait.
The film was completed on a budget rumored to be anywhere between $170-200m so again HBO Max subscriptions will play a huge role in determining its profitability for Legendary Entertainment in order to recoup that investment or at least turn it into new HBO Max users given the Godzilla vs. Kong's initial popularity.
Godzilla vs. Kong is planned for release in theaters and on HBO Max starting march 31, 2021.
