When the PS5 and Xbox Series X launch this fall, there's no doubt that the games will be one of the determining factors for which console many choose to go with. Not much is currently known about the next-gen launch lineup of either, but there is one game on every PS5 hopeful's tongue: Godfall.

Developed by Counterplay Games, Godfall is a unique take on the Looter Shooter genre dubbed Looter Slasher. What that means exactly is currently up in the air, but OPM UK magazine recently revealed a few new details for the game.

Reportedly, Godfall is set to benefit from a wide range of PS5 capabilities, including ray-tracing, minimal loading times, and 3D audio that'll make enemy footsteps crystal clear. Combat and gameplay are discussed in comparison to three big titles: Dark Souls, Destiny, and Monster Hunter World. Apparently, the melee combat is inspired by From Software's Souls series yet manages to add in touches from Destiny 2, as members of the development team have some experience with Bungie's looter shooter.

The development team also seemingly referenced Monster Hunter World in conjunction with its gameplay, likely due to the way bosses operate in-game. Essentially, Godfall's bosses are designed with multiple opponents in mind, meaning that even in co-op, enemies will be able to counter and not be easy to just roll over. The final mention refers to the three types of Godfall armor players will be able to choose from at the game, which defines the character's class, but more are believed to unlock in-game.

The latter would seemingly imply that Godfall's class system may be more fluid than Destiny 2's, and many already thinking that Godfall will be a huge competitor for the game. In fact, early concept art for Destiny looked a lot like Godfall, so it'll be interesting to see how the two compare when the latter launches.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that no one has even seen the PS5 version of Godfall yet, as the leaked gameplay from January was actually from the PS4 version. Godfall may still be incredibly obscure, but it's hard to argue that the hype for it as the first PS5 exclusive officially announced has been building since its reveal at The Game Awards 2019.

Godfall is slated to release this fall on PS5, with a PC release to follow.
