Announced all the way back in December 2019 at The Game Awards, Godfall has been an intriguing next generation title. Cherry picking popular gameplay mechanics from experiences like Monster Hunter, Destiny, and The Stormlight Archive, Godfall is a self proclaimed Looter-Slasher, where combat is more focused on melee attacks with swords and polearms rather than ranged weapons like guns. Expected to release sometime later this year, Counterplay Games have slowly been detailing more and more about the game and its unique class system.

While players have already seen a few of Godfall's version of a class system in previous videos, there's plenty more the team has kept close to its chest. In a new Tweet from the official Godfall account, the team revealed the next Valorplate class called the Hinterclaw. For more information on this class, popular YouTuber Arekkz sat down for an interview with Richard Heyne, who acts as the Technical Producer on the game.

What makes this Valorplate stand out from the others, besides its wolf style look, is that its fast moving and high critical strike class. Its passive ability increases critical strike chance by 10% while the activation skill raises that chance even further up to 30%. As for its Archon ability, the Hinterclaw can summon three AI allies. However, for every enemy that is killed inside of Archon mode, that percent chance raises by 20% up to a maximum of 200%. Needless to say, this class is all about hitting fast and hard.

Unlike other loot style games, Valorplates are not gear that is obtained from beating enemies or finishing missions. Instead, Valorplaters are basically the classes that players can jump between once they're unlocked through normal gameplay. They're also a single piece of armor, rather than being broken down into different slots like the helm or chest plate.

The studio has previously shown off three of the twelve Valorplates in the game and to better differentiate them, they all come with their own passive buff, stats, and an ultimate move called an Archon ability. To better allow players to customize their playstyle, players have full control over which weapon they want to use and the moveset attached to them. Valorplates don't actually dictate which weapon needs to be used or the moveset the equipped weapon has.

For the time being, Godfall remains a timed PlayStation 5 console exclusive besides its PC release as well. For PS5 users, Counterplay is making sure the experience will standout by using the new features of the DualSense controller. Using the rumble and haptic feedback, players will be able to feel the clashes with enemies as well as the different types of surfaces the heavy Valorplates will be moving across. Trigger resistance is another key component, letting players feel the weapons either by swinging them or clanging off of an enemy's strike.
