God of War Director Cory Barlog sat down with PlayStation Access recently to talk about the game and the future of his reinvented vision for the series. While the extended interview covers a number of topics, from inspirations on the game to the development process, some of Barlog's more interesting comments were on what the next God of War might look like, or be about.

The interview itself comes from earlier this month and is set up as a series of responses from Barlog to questions asked by PlayStation Access' own Elle Osili-Wood. For those unfamiliar, PlayStation Access is a UK based YouTube channel that promotes and showcases PlayStation games and news, like an interview with the director for one the PS4's top selling games.

When it comes to the future of the series, Barlog does go into detail on some aspects of the story of the new God of War that he would like to revisit when responding to a question about Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother, Faye. The specific comments made by Barlog seem to hint that he is interested in visiting Kratos and Faye's first meeting and the relationship that eventually followed. In his own words, this was something that he always wanted to visit with this new generation of God of War, but thought it best to create a mythology and lore around Faye first.

"The story of Faye and Kratos meeting, there’s less weight when you don’t know anything that’s coming ahead, right? Meeting her needs to actually feels like something, that you already know the story that we told here, so that there’s a greater weight behind who she is. She’s got a mythology built up."

The section about Faye and her importance in the overall story of God of War and it's long awaited sequel begins at about the 37 minute mark of the 55 minute interview. Fans can watch the entire interview for an even further inside look at the mind of Barlog as well as the development process of modern Santa Monica Studios games. However, for players that still haven't ventured through 2018's God of War, there are a number of spoilers throughout the interview, so those who still haven't played yet should get to it quick before giving the video a watch.

For anyone looking for more Cory Barlog or a more in-depth look at the inner workings of AAA game development, the God of War Director is fairly active on social media, where he talks about his work and some of his favorite games. Any aspiring game developers may want to heed some lessons from the seasoned dev, as he gives rare insight into the industry. Although, his lips are securely sealed when it comes to how development is going for the next God of War game.

God of War is available now for PS4.
