The God of War series has left fans wanting answers to several burning questions for years by this point. Fortunately, many queries will be given answers when the sequel arrives in due time. Unfortunately, it’s more than likely that some questions might be left unanswered.
Although that might just be inevitable since there are supposed to be more games to follow even after this sequel, there are certain questions that will have to be answered in this game itself. If that doesn’t happen, it’s certain that fans will be feeling unsatisfied. Due to this, the sequel has to confirm if the following questions have adequate answers attached to them.
10 When Is The Fated Future Set?
At the end of the game, Kratos saw a prophecy of sorts on the wall in Jotunheim which implied that he would be dying in the future. It’s this event that will cause Atreus to fight against the Nordic gods, although this has been left unclear in some ways.
Namely, it’s not clear exactly when this future is supposed to come to us. Given the nature of the series, it’s entirely possible that Kratos even averts this fate and changes it. The next game should set a definite timeline over when this is all supposed to take place.
9 Is Odin Aware Of Kratos And Atreus' Threat?
Odin never appeared during the events of God of War PS4, but was mentioned so many times that it felt as if he was there the whole time. In the vision of the future, Atreus saw Thor approach them rather than Odin.
The sequel has to confirm if Odin is even aware of the threat these two pose, as it’s hard to believe that even Thor will intervene yet the king of the gods remains ignorant. Not to mention how Atreus and Kratos are linked to the Jotuns, meaning Odin has reason to pursue them.
8 Did Faye Even Love Her Family?
The big twist in the conclusion of God of War revealed that Faye had planned on marrying Kratos and having Atreus the whole time. This was done in order to give birth to the child that can take down the Nordic gods, which also places her relationship with her family in another context.
With the next game set to dive further into Faye’s motivations, there needs to be clarity over what she felt towards Kratos and Atreus. So far, it appears as if she only used them for her needs, but the sequel should confirm if that really was the case or if she had genuine feelings for them.
7 How Did Faye Die?
The events that have led to Ragnarok all began due to Faye’s death. However, it was never clarified just how she passed away, only that she had died and her ashes needed to be taken to Jotunheim. With the revelation that she’s a Giant herself, it’s odd how she passed away.
After all, that would mean that she shouldn’t have been a mortal, so how could she die without being killed by outside factors? Logically, Faye’s physiology entails life set across thousands of years. This leaves the next game with the task of setting up how Faye’s passing came about.
6 Is Athena Still After Kratos?
During the middle of God of War PS4, Kratos saw a vision of Athena taunting him over his failures. Once his greatest ally, she became a personal antagonist for him at the end of God of War III. It’s left ambiguous if she has followed Kratos to the Nordic world.
Since she never died in the original series, it’s possible that Athena really did travel across with Kratos. This would mean that it was the actual Athena in God of War PS4, something the sequel will have to explain.
5 How Many Other Mythological Worlds Are Out There?
Although the game did a good job in carving out all the realms, God of War PS4 made the mistake of not showing all the available areas in the Norse world. While the sequel might just show places like Asgard in full, it should also clarify if other mythological places exist.
This includes mythology from Egyptian times or Aztec times, something that’s very much possible since the God of War universe seems to separate these from location rather than by religion. Whatever it is, the next game will do well by giving an answer to this question.
4 Is Atreus Going To Turn Evil?
Among the many things fans want to see from Atreus in the next God of War game, there’s hope that it will be known for sure if his future is meant to be a dark one or not. Loki has always been portrayed as a trickster god, so there’s a precedent where evil interpretations of the characters exist.
The prophecy about Loki taking down the gods also seemed to set him up as a force to reckon with, emulating what Kratos had been for the Greek gods. All things considered, there’s a lot of ambiguity over Loki’s nature in the future that has to be answered.
3 Are There Any Jotuns Left?
This can play out either as a side mission or part of the main plot in the God of War sequel. While it was implied that all the Giants from Jotunheim might have been killed, the same implication had once been given for Titans in God of War before they turned up in God of War II.
This is why fans keep questioning if the Jotuns might just be alive in some way. This can play out well for the sequel, with the idea that Giants might become part of Loki’s army in the future a potential plotline that can be explored.
2 How Does Freya Plan To Gain Her Revenge?
After Kratos took the life of Baldur, an incensed Freya swore that she would have her revenge one day. Given that Kratos’ future has already been foretold, Freya’s promise has become one of the unresolved storylines that need to be answered.
The next game can show her plotting her revenge, but it would be a copout if we’re not given the exact means through which she plans on doing so. Her status as a witch should give way for an interesting boss fight against her.
1 Does Kratos Still Have His First Family In Mind?
It will always remain as the worst decision Kratos made when he attacked the village where his wife and daughter were. However, God of War PS4 didn’t make reference to these two, possibly due to Kratos forgiving himself for what he did in God of War III.
Still, it’s hard to believe that Kratos simply forgot about them since they had been his reason for living at one time. Fans also want to see Kratos talk about Calliope to Atreus, so it’s up to the sequel to at least confirm if Kratos has moved on so much from his original family that he doesn’t think of them anymore.
