The next God of War game is still officially scheduled for a 2021 release according to Sony. However, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier might have just let out a hint about a possible delay.

The God of War community in general has had doubts about the game arriving in 2021, for months now. Part of the rationale behind these beliefs is that Sony hasn't done a lot of talking about where the title is in the development cycle. On the other hand, the company hasn't announced any official delay. When a follower of Schreier on Twitter asked for some reassurance that God of War is still coming this year, he scoffed.

Schreier responded with a simple "Lol" to the question as to whether God of War is still coming in 2021. The question arose because the Bloomberg News journalist posted earlier in the year that several games that were slated for a 2021 release were going to be delayed. The first of that group was Hogwart's Legacy which the developers announced back in January would not be ready to hit the market until 2022.

The post talking about "numerous" games being delayed was revived by Schreier when Gotham Knights devs announced that game, too was pushed back to next year. It was this thread that the writer's follower looked for confirmation that God of War Ragnarok still indeed had a planned release for later this year.

Several of Schreier's followers took his response as confirmation that the next installment in the rebooted God of War franchise was indeed delayed. Several others claimed they knew that was going to be the eventual decision. Those followers tend to look to the Bloomberg writer because he's gotten a reputation in the gaming industry as someone who has "insider" connections that have allowed him to break very big stories about several major games and the companies behind them.

For its part, Sony has not confirmed there is any sort of delay just yet for God of War Ragnarok. On the other hand, the company hasn't given a whole lot of updates on the state of the title since 2021 began. For now, those hoping to get an update and confirmation that the next installment in the franchise are going to have to wait and hope that Schreier was offering his opinion, rather than some inside knowledge on the situation surrounding the game.

God of War Ragnarok is currently in development for PS4 PS5.
