A couple of days ago, Sony announced that a PlayStation 5 event is happening on June 4, which is set to reveal some of the next-generation console's upcoming games. Of course, it is still a mystery whether the PS5 itself will be revealed at the event (although it does seem likely), but Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan announced that the upcoming event will be focused entirely on PS5 games that will be launched on holiday 2020.

Now, while there are only a few days left before the big PS5 event, one can't help but speculate on which games will be unveiled at the online event. Of course, fans can expect the announcement of a wide variety of PlayStation games, but the question now is, which games will be revealed? Of course, when thinking about possible games for the PS5, God of War 2 comes to mind given the positive reception that 2018's God of War received due to its immersive gameplay and story, and for offering a different perspective on the titular character Kratos. But how likely is it for Sony to announce God of War 2 at the upcoming event?

Back in February, rumors about a PS5 event happening that month also started speculation on whether Sony will be revealing upcoming games for the next-generation console, which includes the rumored God of War 2. Of course, it's known now that the event actually took place in March, and only talked about the console's technical specifications, which led to major disappointment about fans. However, the rumors about the possibility of a sequel to 2018's God of War were never fully debunked, given that Santa Monica Studios did not deny nor confirm whether a sequel is ever going to happen.

God of War PS5

Now, with a confirmed PS5 event that will mostly revolve around its upcoming games, it wouldn't be unlikely for Santa Monica Studios to officially confirm God of War 2, especially since the developer is rumored to attend. Of course, given the critical and commercial success of God of WarGod of War 2 (or whatever Santa Monica Studios decides to call it) is definitely an important game for the PS5 and it wouldn't be unlikely if it is one of the biggest games to be announced for the console.

But is Santa Monica Studio even planning to do God of War 2? It's not really confirmed, especially since the dev team has been tight-lipped with regards to anything about the franchise. However, a job listing that was posted last March suggests that the studio is already prepping for a new God of War game. The listing in question is looking for a gameplay camera designer to join the God of War team on contract. Although it didn't specify that the project is God of War 2, it seems unlikely that this is for an update or a post-launch DLC to God of War, given that the game is already two years old. Again, while this is not an official confirmation of the sequel, it is still a step in the right direction, and all fans have to do is wait for an official confirmation.

PS5 Launch Games - Will God of War 2 Be Ready?

However, if God of War 2 is truly in development, it is still unclear whether the game would serve as a launch title for the PS5, but this remains unlikely given that God of War was just released two years ago. The least that fans should expect on June 4 is an official confirmation of the sequel, and maybe even a preview trailer to get fans going, but this too may not even happen. As for what other games fans could expect to be showcased at the PS5 event, the possibilities are endless and may include Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Godfall, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, Silent Hill Reboot, and many more.

But whether God of War 2 will be revealed at the upcoming PS5 event is still up in the air, given the lack of details and secrecy behind the future of the franchise. Hopefully, Santa Monica Studio will shed some light on whether players should expect a continuity of Kratos' story sometime in the not so distant future. Luckily, God of War fans will only have to wait for a more few days to know whether a sequel is currently in the works.

The PS5's "The Future of Gaming" event is scheduled on June 4 at 1:00 PM PT via streaming platforms such as Twitch and YouTube.
