It sounds crazy on paper, but a God of War LEGO spinoff may just work – at least, a lot of the franchise fans seem to think so. With God of War Ragnarok on pace to be PlayStation's best-selling title of all time, excitement has reached a new peak for the saga of Kratos and Atreus, as Santa Monica Studios followed up a blockbuster in 2018's God of War with a sequel that transcended all expectations. God of War Ragnarok has found popular, commercial, and critical success since its launch on November 9th, 2022 – becoming the preeminent franchise for the PlayStation platform.

On the other hand, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga showed the potential of LEGO games by further pushing the envelope in terms of scope, complexity, visuals, and atmosphere. In a sense, The Skywalker Saga made people realize that following the constraints of the material it was adapting held it back from its true potential. The LEGO games could be more than just loving recreations of popular franchises without losing the charm and wide-appeal that became its underlying identity.

SageOutsider brought forth a half-serious suggestion that the next LEGO game could be adapted from the God of War franchise, and this sparked a strangely captivating discussion on the God of War subreddit. People might think the brutality of the combat might not translate to the kid-friendly atmosphere found in LEGO games, but if one turns blood into a visceral splash of red studs, suddenly a unique visual identity for this hypothetical spinoff starts to emerge.

Whether it would adapt the Norse saga or the original trilogy, a LEGO God of War game would have plenty of source material to draw from, and given the way God of War Ragnarok's ending opened up the franchise, it would potentially have even more mythologies and locations to draw from. Utilizing the open world system introduced in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and pairing it with the stunning environments from God of War seems like a match made in heaven. Moreover, it would give the LEGO games a perfect justification to approach its boss fights in a completely different way.

It's very possible that this suggestion remains but a pipe dream for God of War fans. Nonetheless, it reflects positively on how much both franchises have grown over the years. Where the developers at Santa Monica take God of War next is a mystery that will reveal itself in the next couple of years, but the possible directions are undoubtedly exciting.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
