Thor is reviled throughout God of War's Nine Realms due to his cruelty, violent temper, brutality, and sadism. He is ruthless, showing no mercy to his enemies, and Mimir noted that his bloodlust was the only thing greater than Odin's paranoia, and many regard him as the worst of the Aesir gods.

Despite the fact that Thor was half-giant himself, he took sadistic pleasure in torturing and killing any giant he could find. His reputation was similar to that of Ares, who was regarded as the worst of the Olympian Gods in God of War. However, what distinguishes him from Ares is that he appears to have a sense of honor, as he despises cowardice.

How Other Characters See Thor

Thor appears at the end of God of War

Thor's overall intelligence may be questioned, as he has frequently made a fool of himself or made stupid, reckless mistakes (quite comparable to his sons, in fact). For example, when Kratos learned that even with Mjölnir in hand, he would not be able to break through the ice to reach Thamur's magical chisel, he referred to Thor as a fool. Likewise, Mimir referred to Thor as "sweaty bawbag," "fat dobber," and "thunder lummox" in the Nine Realms when he called for the destruction of the Jötnar.

Brok thought of him as the big idiot, and Atreus thought the same after hearing how Hrungnir's body crushed him. Most notably, Thor's legendary hammer was stolen by the giant Thrym while he was sleeping carelessly. On the other hand, Thor is astute enough to recognize his own limitations and avoid attempting to take on Starkar alone, knowing full well that he would perish.

Thor's Reputation and Cruel Nature

Thor is also extremely arrogant, which is typical for an Aesir, as he would go to great lengths to establish his reputation among the Nine Realms and be respected as well as feared. For example, when Thor battled Thamur, he claimed credit for both the giant's death and the destruction of the village, despite the fact that Thor was simply lucky in both actions.

Thor's overall demeanor appears to revolve around him being cruel and sadistic simply for the sake of it, which contributes to his reputation as one of the most hated and feared Gods of the Nine Realms. An example of this was Thor's needless murder of Hrungnir, despite the fact that the stone Giant was merely amusing the Aesir and posed no threat to anyone.

Due to his abilities, his only outward expressions appear to be rage and smug arrogance. An example of this is when Thor was the only God who was not amused by Hrungnir's foolish performance in Asgard, preferring to murder the Jotun outright because the simpleton had nothing to offer him other than his death.

Thor's cruel nature can manifest itself even when he is attempting to be friendly with others. After a boy's father died, his mother erected a statue of Thor to guard his grave. Thor appeared in front of the family and expressed his condolences for their loss. Although the presence of the God initially overjoyed them, Thor quickly took advantage of their hospitality and became inebriated. The mother, distraught, asked him to leave, to which Thor responded by brutally murdering her in a drunken rage before abandoning the son, cursing the God of Thunder.

Despite his dark side, Thor has shown a genuine concern for and trust in his family. He is known for being very loyal to Odin and was close with Baldur, comforting him in his depression over his inability to feel and trusting him with his life, despite the latter's insanity and disgust for the former's bloodlust. Magni emphasizes that he and Modi must trust Baldur because their father believes in him, despite Modi's claim that their uncle hasn't been sane in a long time. Thor was also known to be enraged by Magni's death, and after Modi and Baldur died, Thor visited Kratos and Atreus in order to exact revenge for their deaths.

God of War is now available on PC and PS4.
