Last year, Sony and Santa Monica Studio released God of War, which was then one of the most highly anticipated PS4 titles of 2018. Not long after its launch, God of War soon became Sony's best-reviewed PS4 game of all time, after the reboot proved to be both a critical and commercial success.

Now, to celebrate 1 year since the release of God of War on the PS4, Santa Monica Studio has released a free dynamic theme for the PS4, with an avatar set following on Wednesday. Apart from the newest theme being free of charge, it will also be available to all PS4 players, regardless of if they own God of War. To download, players must simply login to their PSN account via the PS4 or a web browser and navigate to the God of War page where the download button for the God of War - Your Journey Awaits Dynamic Theme is located. The process is more or less the same for the free avatar pack, when it becomes available on Wednesday, April 17.

In a post via the PlayStation Blog, Shannon Studstill, head of Santa Monica Studio, took her time to thank all the players who supported the latest installment in the God of War franchise. Studstill also reflected on the intricate process that brought the game to life, after developer Cory Barlog pitched the idea of a father and son narrative.

In honor of you, our fans, we're starting a week-long celebration of the one-year anniversary of this God of War. I'm very happy to indulge you with a small token of our appreciation.

As for what's next, rumors have already surfaced online that a God of War sequel is already in the works. The news came from Kotaku's Jason Schreier who claimed on a Reddit thread that Santa Monica Studio is already hard at work in developing a follow-up to 2018's God of War.

While no official confirmation has been made despite the game's first anniversary this week, a sequel to God of War is inevitable especially after the 2018 reboot was recently awarded as Best Game during the BAFTA awards a couple of weeks ago. Given that God of War's anniversary week is just starting, it wouldn't be surprising if Santa Monica Studio is planning to release a teaser for the rumored sequel by the end of the celebration.

God of War is available now on PS4.
