Sony Santa Monica, the studio behind the 2018 reboot of God of Warappears to be hiring for a ton of positions, which may indicate that the studio is gearing up for a new project.

The new positions appear to mostly be comprised of senior and lead positions, which may indicate that the Sony-owned developer is staffing up to begin working on a new project rather than just a follow up to the massively successful God of War. This raises the question of what else Santa Monica could be working on, as the studio is really only known for the God of War series. If the job listings are for a new project, it's highly likely that it will be a new franchise entirely, which would make sense considering Sony's investment in their exclusive titles and the studio's pedigree.

Sony Santa Monica hiring

Of course, there's always the possibility that the additional staff is simply for the sequel to 2018's God of War, which will likely be a game of even greater scope considering how well the reboot has done this year. This wouldn't be quite as cool as a new IP making its way to the market, but it would still be great to see a talented new team of developers refining pre-existing mechanics.

There have been a ton of layoffs and closures at various studios in the past few weeks, so it's great to see developers actually staffing up for new projects. As of right now, everything is still rumors and speculation, so everything should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's hard to imagine there being nothing new in the pipeline for the future.

Still, if a new project is on the horizon, Sony will likely have something to announce in the next few years. After all, the PlayStation 5 is rumored to be in development, and it makes sense that they may want an offering of new games for the launch of the next-gen console. Just what kind of possibilities new hardware could open up for such a talented development team remains to be seen, though it should be enough to excite fans. Until then, players will just have to keep replaying their way through Sony's other exclusives.
