Straight out of the gate, God of War has been wooing critics and setting records. The latest comes from the UK, where the game debuted near the top of the video game charts.

Across the pond, the PlayStation exclusive is the second biggest week one release this year, trailing just behind Far Cry 5 according to physical sales numbers. While it may take second place in this instance, it's the first when it comes to the God of War franchise as a whole. The latest entry is the new week one best-seller for the series, beating out God of War 3.

The game isn't just doing well in the UK; it's enjoying worldwide praise from both critics and audiences alike. It likely doesn't come as a surprise to most, given the popularity of the franchise already, but a lot of things can go wrong with a reboot. Thankfully, the heart of God of War has managed to stay intact, while still evolving to meet the standards of this generation. For Game Rant, this game of the year contender managed to snag a perfect score.

Kratos' latest adventure is loaded with content, boasting more than any of the previous games in the series. While it varies from gamer to gamer, it's estimated that it will take around 25 hours to get through the main story. This is without venturing out and participating in the plethora of engaging side quests. For the completionists out there, they're looking at around 40 hours of playtime, give or take. There is a lot of lore to uncover and myriad collectibles to pick up along the way.

To get things rolling, we've created a quick guide for the first two sets of collectibles players will encounter: the faces of magic and lost toy artifacts. In each new area, there will be a new collection to complete. All of the objects will have a subtle glow about them, and a small beam of light streaming upward.

God of War is now available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
