Just yesterday, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio put out a video containing “Lost Pages of Norse Myth” in a Draugr concept art trailer for God of War that depicted preliminary sketches, drawings, and artistry for the undead monster. Today, the publisher and developer have decided to continue its concept art video series by now releasing a clip highlighting studio artists’ work that helped bring the title’s Revenant creature to life.
As seen below in the latest God of War trailer, fans are given a look at the different designs used as a foundation for the Revenant baddie, with most of them depicting the sinewy, witch-like wretch with long, matted hair and a skull crown of some kind. Not to mention, almost each image shown makes sure to draw attention toward the creature’s Seidr magic staff, which is most likely the source of its power, energy, and abilities.
Sony and Santa Monica Studio have not only been releasing concept art of the enemies in God of War in order to promote the title, but also the publisher and developer have previously put out a slew of pictures for the “Realm of Mysteries,” which has since been confirmed as Midgard. Environments and stage design are the main focus in these for the most part, but several also include looks at the protagonist Kratos and his son Atreus either exploring, braving the wilderness, or facing down a horde of monsters.
Taking all of this into consideration, it’s cool to see Sony and Santa Monica Studio continue to offer God of War fans a peek behind the curtain when it comes to concept art, especially when the game has yet to release. Hopefully, should the development team manage to scrounge up enough of its early designs, perhaps Santa Monica Studio will end up publishing a meaty art book for God of War after its launch next year.
God of War is set to release sometime in early 2018 for PlayStation 4.
