Sony Santa Monica Studio is preparing to unleash the God of War once more, announcing the forthcoming action game's release date in a brand new story-focused trailer. PlayStation 4 owners will be able to purchase the forthcoming action epic starting on April 20, just three months from now. God of War will be Sony Santa Monica Studio's first fully internally developed title since 2013's God of War: Ascension on PlayStation 3.

In a letter written by God of War's game director Cory Barlog on the PlayStation Blog, Barlog mentions how excited he and his team are to launch the game after so many years:

"There has been a long journey just to reach this point, so it’s a little bittersweet to think that we are only a few months away from that journey finally coming to an end. While I am sad, I am also excited because it means everyone will get their hands on this crazy adventure we have been crafting for nearly five years!"

Barlog doesn't mince words, focusing mainly on important release information for God of War. And he doesn't really have to say anything further, because the game's new story trailer conveys his feelings with much more clarity. This God of War is from a completely new and exciting realm, in more ways than one. Expect to be constantly surprised by this mysterious and dangerous new world as Kratos and his son explore it.

Along with the release date and new trailer, God of War's Cory Barlog also shared some information regarding the game's pre-order bonus and collector's editions. All pre-orders for all editions, will offer a selection of different colored "legendary" shield skins to choose from. Pre-orders specifically from GameStop or EB Games will net one a Luck of Ages XP Boost, which grants +10 Luck (increased XP, Hacksilver gain, perk triggers) and an Enchantment Slot. Finally, Digital Deluxe edition pre-orders can receive a physical God of War pin.

The Collector's Edition of God of War is a cheaper alternative to the game's previously revealed $149.99 Stone Mason Edition, though not much different. Coming in at $129.99, the Collector's Edition is still hefty. It features the same 9" Kratos and son Atreus statue from Gentle Giant, Steelbook, map, lithograph and digital goods. Absent are a handful of the smaller trinkets: a ring, two more carvings, a Mimir's head keychain, and another digital shield.

Expect more information on God of War as we near the game's forthcoming release.

God of War releases on April 20 exclusively for the PS4.
