While Sony has a packed slate of high profile games set for 2018, the company’s most anticipated game is arguably God of War. And if a new leak is true, God of War Release Date Leaks on PlayStation Store may release sooner than most expected.

Although Sony has yet to confirm anything, a brief update to the game's PlayStation store page claims that God of War will release on March 22, 2018. If nothing else that aligns with the previously announced release window of early 2018.

Since the release date change was spotted, the PlayStation store has switched back to the typical December 31, 2018 placeholder for God of War. It’s entirely possible that someone activated the new release date too early, or that it was posted in error. Either way, the date did change for a brief moment and fans have now begun speculating.

Obviously, the first strike against the supposed God of War release date is that March 22nd is a Thursday. Games typically don’t release on Thursdays, with most favoring either the traditional Tuesday or the rare Friday for high profile releases.

But March 22nd has some significance when it comes to the God of War franchise, with the first title releasing on that exact date back in 2005. Perhaps Sony and its Santa Monica Studio want to bring things full circle by releasing the “soft reboot” on the same date as the first game.

If the God of War release date is, in fact, real, then gamers can expect an announcement is right around the corner. Sony has its PlayStation Experience event this coming weekend, and there are sure to be tons of announcements and reveals during the pre-show press conference. As the first major PS4 release of 2018, God of War is all but guaranteed to be there, and now it seems likely that a release date announcement could punctuate whatever presentation Santa Monica Studio prepares.

But even if Sony doesn’t date God of War, there is a good chance that fans will see new footage from the game, as this is one of the last opportunities for the studio to “sell” its game. Much like they did with Horizon: Zero Dawn last year, Sony should put a lot of attention on God of War – along with Days Gone, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us Part 2 – assuming the game is still releasing in early 2018.
