There's no question that Sony and Santa Monica Studio's God of War is one of the PS4's most highly anticipated exclusives for 2017, so it should come as no surprise that fans are waiting on the edge of their seats to find out when the forthcoming action-adventure game will be hitting store shelves. As it happens, a listing from a Portuguese gaming retailer known as Gaming Replay could have just leaked the release date for the title, as it recently changed the Santa Monica Studio project's launch date to September 14, 2017 on its site.
As seen in the image below, folks can find a screenshot of the listing on Gaming Replay's site for the sake of posterity should it end up being removed. Of course, even if it does, God of War fans should definitely take this news as a huge rumor, seeing as how the Portuguese site could just be using it as a placeholder date for the title's release.
For those unaware, Sony and Santa Monica Studio's God of War for PS4 was revealed during last year's PlayStation press conference at E3 2017, as gameplay from the title opened the showcase, setting the pace for the rest of the evening's reveals. Instead of the usual Greek lore that has inspired previous entries in the franchise, though, the forthcoming installment is set to be steeped in Norse mythology.
Taking all of this into consideration, fans likely won't have to wait too much longer to find out whether or not the release date leak is true or not, as there will likely be a time frame set for God of War's launch during this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. As a matter of fact, Sony revealed PlayStation's E3 2017 press conference date for June 12, so fans should definitely expect to learn more once the big event arrives in a little more than a month.
God of War is currently in production for PlayStation 4, but lacks an official release date.
