[UPDATE: The mural has been finished ahead of E3 and unfortunately no juicy info was in the bottom right corner. Sony may still announce a release date during its Press Conference, but that will have to wait until Monday.]

While Sony generally likes to keep its E3 press conferences a mystery leading up to the show, there are usually at least a few safe bets to be made regarding what will show up. God of War, for example, is almost assured to make an appearance since Sony is putting up a massive banner in downtown LA to celebrate the game.

However, at the time people began seeing the God of War banner most assumed it was simply a promotion for the game at E3. Now that some time has passed, though, it seems the banner may also be revealing the game’s release date. When it is finished that is.

News of the massive God of War ad first surfaced about 5 days ago, when painters started putting the game’s logo onto the side of a building. Then, the smaller details started to fill in, like Kratos and his son Atreus, and the banner was nearly finished. But, there remained a piece of the banner that has yet to be filled in – the bottom corner, where a release date could easily go.

E3 banners on buildings is nothing new for the annual video game trade show, but oftentimes publishers like to time their completion around certain announcements. Last year, for example, a banner went up for Gwent, but it wasn’t confirmed as a Gwent banner until after the official game announcement.

So it makes sense, then, that Sony would leave some of the banner blank until its E3 2017 press conference. Presumably, Sony Santa Monica will take to the stage, show off a demo of God of War, and then announce a release date. After that, the painters will be safe to fill in the rest of the banner with the necessary information.

Of course, this is all speculation at this point, and it may simply be that the banner’s bottom right corner is the last part to be filled in. Still, it seems mighty suspicious that the whole area would be mostly blank.

But, if the corner remains blank for another day, it’s a safe bet that Sony is poised to make a God of War release date announcement at E3 2017. That also means the game is releasing before June of next year, likely in early 2018.

God of War is schedule for release on PS4.
