The arrival of 2018's God of War marked a fairly significant change within the franchise itself. With the introduction Kratos' son, Atreus, the brand new Norse mythology setting, and Kratos' personality being much more calmer and wiser by comparison to his earlier depictions, the God of War series is being taken in a completely new direction. This also includes the weapons the player can use during active combat.

The most recent God of War installment marked the very first appearance of the Leviathan Axe, a weapon formerly wielded by Kratos' wife, Faye. Considering the Norse setting, a war axe does fit the world of the game from a tonal standpoint much better than the Blades of Chaos, even though the Blades still make an appearance in the game. In any case, the Leviathan Axe has since become the subject of many cosplays and weapon replicas. In fact, one fan of the series managed to painstakingly recreate the axe, twice.

Over on Twitter, a French user named Megret Agnes showed off two faithful recreations of the Leviathan Axe from God of War. According to the user, it collectively took at least 130 hours of work. For how impressive the replica is, it's amazing to think about how much time and effort went in to making something like this. One could only imagine how many hours it took to make the fan-made animatronic Mimir head.

It's incredible how much detail there is within this replica of the Leviathan Axe. From the intricate, gold embellishments, to the varnish on the wooden handle, to the outlines of the glowing blue symbols that appear on the Leviathan Axe when it's fully upgraded, it's a wonderfully detailed replica that will be sure to impress a number of God of War fans.

In any case, it's amazing to see how much God of War has managed to persist after being out for over three years. Fans are still posting numerous pieces of fan-made content online, such as cosplay, fan art, weapon replicas, one fan even made custom Lego figurines of Kratos and Atreus. Although, many fans are also curious as to what the future holds for God of War moving forward.

While the official trailer for God of War: Ragnarok shown at the PlayStation Showcase event revealed many additional details in terms of what to expect from the new game, there's still a lot of unanswered questions. In fairness, Santa Monica Studios has kept plenty of God of War story details close to the chest, so that once they are finally revealed in-game, it makes story moments that much more meaningful.

God of War is available now for PS4 and PS5, with a PC version set to release on January 14, 2022.
